Treble Viol

Treble Viol - A composite design typical of circa 1620


The viol is characterised by the flat back, deep ribs and the number and tuning of its strings. This treble viol is decorated with botanical illustrations after Redoute.

This instrument is based on a plan by Mr R. Payn of N.S.V.M. Other viols of various sizes are available, based on those of Gasparo de Salo or Norman Barak.
